Benefit on the Bay Fundraising Event

The 28th annual Benefit on the Bay fundraiser is coming up August 27th, 2021. Sponsored by Shelving Inc., 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit the local Capuchin Soup Kitchen programs.

The event will take place at MacRay Harbor on Lake St. Clair in Harrison Twp. starting at 5:30 p.m. It will once again be emceed by Detroit media personality Jay Towers, a morning news anchor for Fox 2 Detroit and host of the Jay Towers in the Morning program on 100.3 WNIC.

There will be a wide variety of entertainment available, ranging from performances by guitarist Doug Simonsen, to the After Glow dance party featuring a live band performance. As in previous years, a silent and live auction will be featured for guests to bid on.

Shelving Inc. possesses a deep belief in the importance of a strong and connected community. We strive to give back to this nonprofit close to our heart - supporting a great cause while enjoying a midsummer evening on the water.

History

In 1993, the first year of the event, creator Mike Schodowski invited family and friends to the Island Cove Marina to raise money for the Capuchin Soup Kitchen. A modest crowd gathered and Mike was able to donate $1,400 in funds raised to the soup kitchen.

Continuing to grow, in 2003 Mac & Ray's hosted its first Benefit on the Bay - in the dark. Well, almost! Much of Metro Detroit was out of power due to a massive outage. Phone lines were down, and reaching friends and loved ones was nearly impossible. However, there was a beacon of light on the water that day as Mac & Ray's had a generator. The show must go on - and so it did! As over four hundred people attended that year, everyone showed up on faith that the event's 10th anniversary would be a success - blackout or not.

Each year since has been sellout attendance with crowds of 600 enjoying the full evening of festivities that is now synonymous with Benefit on the Bay charity event. No longer a beer and pizza party, the Benefit on the Bay extravaganza spares no details - from a great meal, stellar entertainment and the fabulous atmosphere.
